Abstract
The good effects of a favourable crop production are sometimes neutralised by (a) famines, floods and other natural calamities; (b) pest like locusts, birds and animals and (c) diseases that affect the standing crops on the fields. Birds, insect pests and diseases are responsible for considerable loss of agricultural produce which needs to be controlled by scientific methods of crop protection. Damage to sorghum, pearl millet and wheat was directly related to the presence of trees along field borders. Trees provided perching sites for feeding to Parakeets. While the bird damage to crops in and around Patan district of Gujarat, we observed that bird damage varied dramatically among areas and fields. Detailed analyses of such situations were made to reveal the reasons.
