PHYTOCHEMICAL, ANTIMICROBIAL, AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITIES OF N-HEXANE FRACTION OF PLANT EXTRACT DANIELLIA OLIVERI Kabiru Bashir Ahmad1

The need to support the continued therapeutic application of herbal remedies for synthetically formulated drugs, through scientific evaluation of some medicinal plants. In this study phytochemical, anti-microbial, antioxidant activities on the stem bark of Daniellia olivera were investigated, the result of Phytochemical screening of stem bark of Daniellia oliveri show the presence of terpenoids, cardiac glycocides, tannins and saponins but flavonoids, steroids and alkaloids were absence, result of antimicrobial show that N-hexane fraction of Daniellia oliveri were sentitive against Escherichia coli at 13mm, 15mm and 18mm in the concentration of 40mg/ml, 80mgml and 120mgml respectively. Staphylococcus aureus at 16mm, 21mm and 21mm in the concentration of 40mg/ml, 80mg/ml and 120mg/ml respectively. Salmonella typhi at 9mm, 13mm and 16mm in the concentration of 40mg/ml, 80mg/ml and 120mg/ml. It was observed that the zone of inhibition for staphylococcus aureus at 21mm highest when compared to other bacteria which means the extract is very active on the organism.
