2.TRADITIONAL PISCICIDAL PLANTS UTILISED BY THE TRIBAL’S IN BASTAR REGION (CHHATTISGARH) By AJAY BANIK
Abstract
The paper deals with the identification and documentation of the fish
stupefying plants used by the tribal’s of Bastar region (Chhattisgarh). A total
of 13 plant species belonging to 11 families were used to poison the fishes by
the tribal’s. The result suggests that the natural stupefy agents are far more
safe and economical than the utilisation of harmful synthetic chemicals which
can eventually enter in the human food chain. The Scientific names, Local
names and Family names of these plant species, along with the parts used and
the mode of usage are enumerated.
