ASSESSMENT OF VARIOUS INTERTIDAL ZONES WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO SEDIMENTS AND MANGROVES
Keywords:
Gulf of kachchh, Mangroves, macro fauna, sediment qualityAbstract
Mangroves are considered as protector of coastal area as they protect shore form land erosion, cyclonic storms and also provide excellent feeding & breeding ground to any fin & shell fishes. This study represents assessment of sediment quality and mangroves of three different intertidal region of Gulf of Kuchchh region. It will help in understanding the quality of sediment and its impact in the biotic and abiotic components in mangrove ecosystem. Study also defined health of mangroves and its associated flora and fauna. Major parameters like total organic carbon and texture of sediment is analyzed. Mangrove biomass and population is monitored. Present study revealed that organic matter is present in high concentration. Afforestation results in reach and healthy macro fauna biomass as well as healthy mangrove ecosystem.
