6.MEDICINAL PLANTS USED BY MALAMPADARAM TRIBALS IN ACHANKOVIL FORESTS OF KERALA TO CURE SNAKE BITE_ WOUND AND BONE FRACTURE By JOSE MATHEW AND GEORGE KV
Abstract
The Malampandaram tribals reside in the Achankovil valley, Kollam district of southern Kerala. They, being nomadic in search for honey and other minor forest produce, are often prone to snake bite, wounds and other health risk related to their livelihood. An ethnobotanical study was conducted to identify the medicinal plants used by them. The study revealed that 16 plant species are used to care and cure these common ailments. The botanical name, family, vernacular name and mode of treatments of the resources have been included.
