Preliminary phytochemical analysis and Antioxidant Activity of Cordia sebestena L.
Keywords:
Cordia sebestena, Phytochemicals, Antioxidant activityAbstract
The present study focuses on Cordia sebestena L., a species belonging to Boraginaceae family. Methanolic extract form leaves, flower and bark of the plant was prepared, preliminary phytochemical screening along with an evaluation of the anti-oxidant activity using DPPH assay was carried out. Result shows that methanolic extracts of all three plant parts revealed a higher presence of phytochemicals. However, in the antioxidant activity assay, the extracts exhibited lower free radical scavenging activity compared to the standard ascorbic acid. These findings suggest that while Cordia sebestena exhibits notable phytochemical presence and further work can be conducted to explore its pharmacological properties.
