In Morocco, phytotherapy is the main medical alternative used by populations to treat various diseases. The aim of this study was to list and assess the ethnomedicinal knowledge about medicinal plants (MPs) used in the treatment of nervous system affections in Al Haouz region, Morocco. The ethnomedicinal survey was carried out from March 2020 to January 2021 in Al Haouz region. A total of 274 informants were interviewed including local traditional herbalists, Ferragas (people who do a form of traditional physiotherapy), housewives, and other users of these plants. The data were collected through semistructured interviews and focus group, analyzed, and compared by quantitative ethnobotanical indices such as family importance value, relative frequency of citation, fidelity level, and informant consensus factor (ICF). A set of 50 medicinal plant species belonging to 30 botanical families were cited. Lamiaceae and Asteraceae were the most commonly reported medicinal plants with 11 and 4 species, respectively. The most cited species are Dysphania ambrosioides (RFC=0,142), Thymus saturejoides (RFC=0,099), Lagenaria siceraria (RFC=0,091), Marrubium vulgare (RFC=0,089). Concerning the treated affections, Headache and migraine problems have the highest ICF (0.804 and 0,761 respectively). The aerial part was the most used part (40%), and the most commonly used preparation was a decoction (42%). The present study revealed the presence of traditional knowledge on the treatment of nervous illnesses using medicinal plants in the Al Haouz region. This suggests the importance of carrying out phytochemical and pharmacological studies to assess the validity of the potential therapeutic effects of these botanical resources.
