Arid Wetlands and its Restoration perspectives - A case study of Kachchh District, Gujarat

Wetlands are crucial for our existence. They serve us in many important and surprising ways. The arid Kachchh district (220 41’ 11’’ to 240 41’ 47’’ north latitude and 680 09’ 46’’ to 710 54’ 47’’ east longitude), located at the western most part of the Gujarat state is known for its large extent of area under wetland habitat, which is represented by numerous seasonal water bodies and coastal habitatsand they can be considered as biologically rich region.In the recent past the socio-cultural and economic lifestyle of the local residents is on the course of transformation with the advent of industrial development and various kinds of anthropogenic pressures on the natural resources, death of older knowledgeable persons and younger generation adopt modern technology has been further decrease of this system. Therefore, in view of the above considerations, efforts have been made to mitigate wetland losses through site specific restoration perspectives for Kachchh District.
