Abstract

The study on the butterfly diversity and their host plants was carried in College of Horticulture and Forestry Neri campus, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, India. A total of 35 species of butterfly were identified with their diverse host plants belonging to five different families in order Lepidoptera which were Nymphalidae 37.14 % (13) with maximum in number following Pieridae 28.57 % (10), Lycaedinae 14.29 % (5), Hesperiidae 11.43% (4), Papilionidae 8.57 % (3) throughout the research from three distinct ecosystem of the campus: Forest ecosystem, Agriculture ecosystem and Horticultural ecosystem. Different host plants recorded, in which most were trees, with fewer herbs and shrubs. The study demonstrates that the region contains a variety of butterfly habitat, and further research can be conducted to learn more about the diversity of butterflies for use in conservation efforts and butterfly gardens.
