10.PHYTOSOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF TURANALA, A RIVERINE WETLAND OF GORAKHPUR, INDIA BY ANIL K. DWIVEDI, PRATAP NARAIN SINGH# AND C. O. SAMUEL
Abstract
The present study was conducted during summer 2012 for the phytosociological investigation of the angiosperm in Turanala a riverine wetland of Gorakhpur District, Uttar Pradesh. 113 plant species belonging to 89 genera under 43 families have been recorded. The leading plant families which play a key role in the formation of vegetation during the summer were Asteraceae (11 species), Poaceae (10 species), Polygonaceae (8 species), Scrophulariaceae and Cyperaceae (7 species each) and Amaranthaceae (6 species). On the basis of IVI values Vetiveria zizanioides, Ipomoea fistulosa, Lemna minor, Monochoria hastata and Eichhornia crassipes were the most abundant and frequent species in the season. Vetiveria zizanioides has the highest IVI 41.91. Shannon – Wiener diversity index (H?) was 1.68 during summer season.
