PELTOPHORUM PTEROCARPUM (DC.) K. HEYNE IS BEST ALTERNATIVE TEXTILE DYE OF THE ACACIA CATECHU (L.F.) WILLD.
Keywords:
Peltophorum pterocarpum, Acacia catechu, excellent fastness properties, cotton fabricAbstract
Acacia catechu dye is extracted from it’s wood. It gives various brown shades on cotton textile material. Acacia catechu extract gives an unaltered shades brown with different mordants. Studied their fastness properties. Observed very good to excellent fastness properties of washing and Rubbing fastness. Observed good to very good fastness properties of perspiration fastness. Observed fair fastness properties of light fastness which can improve by finishing agent.
Same as Peltophorum pterocarpum plant parts have proved brown dye on cotton textile materials. Dry flowers, fresh flowers, fresh leaves, dry bark and lac of this plant were used as a dye source which are renewable, regenerated and biodegradable resources. Lac is product of an insect secretion, thick crimson coloured resin laccaic acid (C20 H12 O 10). Various type of brown shades was obtained using different mordants such as Alum, CuSO4, FeSO4. Excellent fastness properties were observed while using dye from dry flowers, dry bark and lac. Electrolytes were selected as NaCl, NaHCO3 and Na2SO3 during the control (lac of mordant) of dyeing while using dye from Dry bark. Observed excellent fastness properties of Rubbing, Washing, Perspiration and Light with the Na2SO3 in case of control.
