4. APPLICATION OF TITANIUM DIOXIDE (TIO2) NANOPARTICLE IN DYE DEGRADATION BY PHOTO CATALYTIC PROCESS by DIPALI SHINDE, AND SATISH KULKARNI
Abstract
Aim of the work is a titanium dioxide photo-catalysis for treatment of dye solution. TiO2 nanoparticles are activated by light and used to remove organic contaminants. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanosized particles are the most popular photo catalysts which attract much attention for both fundamental research and water treatment technology. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles were synthesized using sol-gel method. The photo catalytic activity of TiO2 nanoparticles was performed by degrading 10mg of Methyl Orange Dye in D/W under expose of UV light. The intensity of Methyl Orange Dye decreases after UV irradiation with the presence of TiO2 nanoparticles. The degradation of methyl orange dye was also checked at various pH ranges i.e. at pH 4, 6, and 8. Highest photo catalytic activity of Tio2 nanoparticles on methyl orange dye was 78.19% with 3 hrs of exposure to UV light by using 500 mg nano particles. Also there was maximum degradation of methyl orange sample at pH 6 i.e. 56.11% in 3hrs of irradiation time. FTIR analyses of the treated samples were done to know the adsorption of methyl orange over TiO2 nanoparticles. Hence, these TiO2 nanoparticles hold great potential in advancing water and waste water treatment to improve treatment efficiency, safe use of nonconventional water sources.
