Abstract

Sesame is an important oilseed crop in India next to groundnut, rapeseed and mustard. Due to intensive cultivation of crop under high temperature, plant become prone to grown stem and root disease caused by Macrophomina phaseolina and cause huge loss in seed yield. For management of disease in vitro and in vivo different group of fungicides were tested. Among them, in vitro evaluation of fungicide revealed that, among six non-systemic fungicides thiram, mancozeb and zineb were effective in inhibiting the radial growth and gave 92.31, 84.62 and 72.49 per cent inhibition, respectively. Propiconazole and tebuconazole gave cent percent inhibition among seven systemic fungicides tested. Out of six different combinations of fungicides evaluated, zineb 60% + hexaconazole 4%, cymoxanil 8% + mancozeb 64%, carbendazim 12% + mancozeb 63% at 2000 ppm and pyraclostrobin13.3% + epoxyconazole 5% at 500 ppm gave cent per cent inhibition. Out of eight fungicides tested under field condition, minimum disease (14.82%) and maximum yield (699 kg/ha) was recorded in case of propiconazole. It was at par with tebuconazole and hexaconazole with 16.37 and 19.27 per cent disease incidence and 669 and 644 kg/ha seed yield.
