Abstract
In the last few decades there has been an exponential growth in the
field of Herbal medicine. Medicinal plants have a vital role to preserve
the human healthy life. It is getting popularized in developing and
developed countries owing to its natural origin and lesser side effects.
The large family Euphorbiaceae contains nearly about 300 genera and
7,500 species. Generally they are the flowering plants. Amongst all,
the Ricinus communis or castor plant has high traditional and
medicinal value for maintain the disease free healthy life. Castor plant
(Ricinus communis L.) extracts have been used by many natives of the
world in treatment of several ailments. It is a small tree which is found
all over the India. All parts of plant are important viz. bark, leaves,
flowers, seed, oil etc. This activity of the plant possess due to the
important phytochemical constituents like flavonoids, saponins,
glycosides, alkaloids and steroids etc.
