Abstract

Three species of Chlorophytum recorded by Shah, G. L. (1978) and five species recorded by Hooker, J.D. 1882.  Chlorophytum is a genus of about 190 odd species of evergreen perennial flowering plants in the world. The World Checklist of Chlorophytum Families recognized 191 species as of January 2013 (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, 2013).

Chlorophytum comosum (Thunb.) Jacques, often called the spider plant, airplane plant or hen-and-chickens, is a flowering perennial herb. It is native to tropical and southern Africa, but has become naturalized in other parts of the world, including Western Australia. Variegated forms in particular are used as houseplants.

Chlorophytum comosum (Thunb.) Jacques is reported  as  a  new  record  for  Gujarat state in India. A brief description, nomenclature with photographs of the plant is provided to enable its easy identification.
