Abstract
Melon fly, Bactrocera cucurbitae and Ethiopian fruit fly, Dacus ciliatus infested cultivated hosts i.e.
Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata), Karingada (Citrulus lanatus), ridge gourd (Luffa acutangula), Sponge
gourd (Luffa cylindrical), cucumber ( Cuculus sativus) in the field. The mean incidence of fruit flies in
cultivated hosts was ranged between 19.11 and 35.06 per cent. The incidence of fruit flies was higher
during the month of October and November in all the hosts. Based on per cent damage the descending
order of susceptibility of different cultivated hosts was C. sativus > L. acutangula > L. cylindrical > C.
lanatus > C. moschata. The overall mean fruit damage irrespective to host and period was 25.57 per cent
in cultivated host under survey.
