7.ETHNO GYNECOLOGICAL USE OF PTERIDOPHYTES IN PACHMARHI BIOSPHERE RESERVE,MADHYA PRADESH, INDIA BY SHWETA SINGH & RITA SINGH
Abstract
This paper describes the significant role of indigenous women who are utilizing the pteridophytic
biodiversity in the treatment of various gynecological disorders and conserving their natural habitat in
Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve. The present study revealed that 24 species of pteridophytes belonging to 15
families and 19 genera are traditionally used by tribal women of Korku, Gond, Bharia, Bhil, Mauria, Maria,
Paria, Bhatara and Baigas communities in gynecological problems which contribute about 18.66% of total
pteridophytic diversity of the area. Latin names, vernacular names, family, the locality of occurrence, their
habit and habitats along with the parts utilized for medicinal uses of all the 24 species used in
gynecological disorders are also tabulated.
