Abstract

ABSTRACT:
A study was conducted to assess the effects of physical mutagen gamma rays
and  a  chemical  mutagen  EMS  on  rice  cultivar  ADT  (R)  47  to  study  the
morphological  variations  in  this  variety.  For  inducing  macro  and  micro
mutations, the dose applied were 200Gy, 250Gy and 300Gy of gamma rays and
100mM,  120mM  and  140mM  of  EMS.  In  initial  evaluation  trial  (M 1 ),  the
germination percentage, seedlings survival percentage, plant height on 30 th  day,
pollen fertility, plant height at maturity, seed fertility showed a dose dependent
reduction for both the mutagens. Among the various traits, seedling height on
30 th  day and the plant height at maturity exhibited less variation between the
mutagens.
