Abstract

ABSTRACT:

Effects of heavy metals (lead and zinc) on root length, shoot length, seed germination and fresh weight of Brassica rapa L. were studied. For this purpose seeds were treated with various concentrations (10, 50,100,200,500 &1000 ppm) of lead and zinc and allowed to germinate under laboratory conditions for 10 days. On 10th day it was determined that seed germination and shoot length both show inhibited result with both heavy metals treatment except at lower concentration of zinc where the results are better than control. Similarly the root length and fresh weight show inhibitory results except at 1000 ppm concentrations of both lead and zinc, where the result was nil.
