Abstract

The Quality Planting Materials (QPMs) of “globally vulnerable” Saraca asoca were produced under National Mission on Medicinal Plants and planted on the government lands viz. State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Daund, Solapur and Pune; Yervada Jail, Pune; DBS Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli, etc. In planted fields the flowering was observed after 4 years with about 90 percent survival of trees. There was only flowering but very poor pod set. The inflorescence size was small as compare to mature trees. The average mean height of the planted sapling was 3.3 m and collar diameter was 5.09 cm under Dapoli (Ratnagiri) condition while the average mean height of the planted sapling was 3.6 m and collar diameter was 6.15 cm under Daund (Pune) condition after 4 years.
