SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERISATION AND ANTIMICROBIAL STUDIES OF CHALCONES
Title chalcones have been prepared by reaction of 1-(3-bromo-5-chloro-2-hydroxyphenyl)ethanone and various benzaldehyde to give 1-(3-bromo-5-chloro-2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(substitutedphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one (1 a-i).
The structural assignment of the compounds was based on elements analysis and IR, 1H NMR and Mass spectral data. All the synthesized compounds have been screened for their antimicrobial activity to gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial strains and antifungal activity. The antimicrobial activities of the synthesized compounds have been compared with standard drugs like Amoxycillin, Ciprofloxecine and Griseofulvin. Purity of synthesized compounds has been checked by TLC.
